Settings Board

In this post, I will be talking about the different locations/settings that I have used in my Documentary and the reasons for using them.

The first location we used to record in our documentary was the cafe/bike room that is in Tavistock College. What we recorded was 4 girls on spinning bikes during a PE lesson to show that participation among girls in sports is still quite high. The reason why we recorded in this particular location is because spinning bikes are fairly popular among young females so by recording them in this setting has provided me and my group with an argument to suggest that participation in sport hasn't dropped off. We also chose this location because the lighting in this area was particular good and allowed us to capture great footage for our documentary.

The second location that we used in our documentary was a middle aged woman's home in Tavistock. What we recorded was a member of our group, Barney, conducting an interview with a mother giving her opinions on if participation within sport has increased or decreased. The reason why we recorded in this location was because we felt that we'd receive better quality answers from Carolyn if she was in the comfort of her own home. We also chose this location because it was in a quite location within Tavistock therefore there wasn't any background noise and also because there was lots of natural lighting which added to the effect.

The third location that we used to record our documentary in was the AstroTurf pitch in Tavistock. What we recorded was a training session with the under 18's football team, Tavistock Community, which also shows that participation in sport hasn't decreased. The reason why we recorded in this location is because football is a popular sport among males so by recording them training shows why young males are so passionate about this sport. We also chose this location because the flood lights that are on the astro provides really good lighting for the camera so we managed to capture some high quality footage for our documentary.

The fourth location that we used to record in our documentary was a sports hall in a local school, Tavistock College. What we we recorded in this session was year 11 girls participating in a PE playing netball. The reason why we chose to record in this location was because we needed to capture some more footage of females participating in sport and also because there was a lot of space for me and my group to record in which allowed us to capture many different shots of them playing. We also chose to use this location because of the lighting that is used in the hall, it's very bright and it allowed us to capture really good quality footage.

What I have learnt from this post is how I've managed to identify the different locations used in my media project and the write about the different reasons as to why I've used them. This has also taught me how to what to look for when picking a location to record in and how to avoid some of the factors that would disrupt or get in the way of our recording sessions. From this it has taught me the optimal environments to be in when wanting to record.
